For fresh designs and sustainable fabrics, choose PrAna yoga clothing. The company’s staff relies on inspiration from nature and outdoor exploration to create attractive yet durable yoga wear.
PrAna Yoga Clothing: The Beginning
In Sanskrit, prana is usually defined as breath, vitality of the spirit, or pure energy. When PrAna founders Beaver and Pam Theodosakis were thinking of a name for their Southern California company, Pam poured over her yoga books until they found something that embodied what they were trying to do.
They wanted PrAna yoga clothing to capture the active spirit, appealing to yogis as well as rock climbers and other outdoor enthusiasts. The couple used recycled materials from the start, going so far as to shred newspapers, pulse them in a blender until they were pulp, then flattened and dried the pulp to make clothing labels.
As the company expanded, the focus remained on sustainability. PrAna is a member of the Organic Trade Association, and uses low-impact dyes, organic cotton, a variety of other natural fibers (such as hemp), and recycled materials.
What started in the couple’s garage is now a multi-million dollar company. Although now owned by Liz Claiborne, Inc., Theodosakis says PrAna’s core culture remains intact while having access to more resources, and he, along with Pam and other top employees, still guide the company’s growth.

A Sample of PrAna Yoga Clothing
There are many aspects of PrAna yoga clothing that practitioners find attractive. This organic Stella top for women is made with organic cotton and a little Spandex for stretch. But, because of built-in support and a form-fitting silhouette, there’s no need to wear a bulky sports bra underneath it.
The women’s Ashbury Ono pant adds a bit of flair with a tie-dyed style and a close fit for easy mobility.
There are a number of options for branded PrAna yoga clothing, too, such as this t-shirt design, a comfortable workout alternative, as well as other designs, like the swirl found on this lightweight long-sleeved shirt.
PrAna features active yoga clothing for men, too. One popular item is the fushion knickers, designed not to ride up the leg but still provide easy movement. Form-fitting Mantra shorts are crafted in organic cotton and Spandex and built for high-performance routines.
There are a number of shirt styles for men, including this sleeveless crew, which is very breathable and dries quickly. The Maverick long-sleeved tee features the PrAna force logo and is made from recycled materials.
You’ll find outerwear and casual wear at PrAna, too. Prices are slightly above average, but the company features a number of items in its outlet.
Not Just for Clothes
Although PrAna yoga clothing is a popular choice, the company also offers a wide stock of accessories and yoga equipment for different areas of focus.
The Yoga Welcome Kit is a great bargain for a beginner. It includes a natural rubber mat and strap, a mat bag, a bamboo block, and a special DVD series produced by Yoga Today.
If you’re practicing meditation, you can sit on a yoga mat, or you can try this wool and silk meditation blanket.
Rock climbing enthusiasts will appreciate the selection of chalk bags and belts in sturdy fabrics such as hemp and canvas.
Not Just a Clothing Company
In 2005, the founders of PrAna formed the Natural Power Initiative. Considered an extension of the company, the goal is to raise awareness about renewable energy and to demonstrate solutions. The company is a strong advocate for wind power.
In 2006, the company offset all of the energy consumption for its corporate offices and the homes of full-time employees, as well as that of 250 retail locations in the U.S.
