Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training
From LoveToKnow Yoga
Pursuing Kundalini Yoga teacher training is a challenging endeavor.
What to Know Before Choosing a School
The investment you make in yourself to learn yoga from a teacher’s perspective is an immense decision. The instruction you receive will establish your teaching foundation, so you should be precise in your selection of a school.
Here are some basic factors to consider:
- Confirm the program is compliant with Yoga Alliance. Yoga Alliance is a nonprofit organization with a series of training standards applicable to both teachers and schools. These standards assure quality for the student-teacher and future students of that teacher in areas of practicum, physical practice, methodology, philosophy, and physiology. Compare requirements for 200-hour and 500-hour programs.
- Ask about the primary instructors, their experience, the code of ethics, and how much time they dedicate to students.
- Inquire into the prerequisites to your desired training and the necessary steps to meet those requirements.
- Verify that the school meets all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Have the school outline exactly what you will be taught, how the material is presented, and if you’ll meet certification standards upon graduation.
- Get a signed contract that details payment structure, training duration, and curriculum.
Curriculum and Fees
Each program will have its unique blueprint, but expect to learn basics such as:
- Asanas, meditation techniques, and kriyas
- The origin and philosophy of the practice
- Physiology and anatomy
- The specific role of a Kundalini Yoga instructor
Program fees vary considerably, because many training sessions are retreat intensives. In this setting, you are immersed in practice for up to a month, living and eating in ashrams or dormitories with other students. Other programs break out training during a succession of weekends over the course of a year.
For intensives, plan a budget starting at $4,000 for training, materials, certification, lodging, and meals.
For weekend programs, your costs start with training, materials, and certification, which average $2,000. Additional costs for transportation, lodging, and meals are usually not including in the instruction price.
