Guided Meditation Script
From LoveToKnow Yoga
If you need assistance with your meditation practice, a guided meditation script may help. You can read it during your session, or record it for future use.
What to Look for in a Script
Meditation is such an individualized practice, there’s no right or wrong way to do it–only suggestions you might incorporate into your session. Some people sit quietly for 20 minutes and repeat a particular phrase. Others chant om. Still others like to meditate to audio guidance with music.
Your meditation sessions may vary based on the time you have or your need for that day. So if you prefer to use a guided meditation script, here are a few considerations for your selection:
- Detailed body relaxation instructions might be helpful for those times when you really need to unwind.
- Various breathing techniques can either relax or energize you, so it’s good to have a variety of these scripts.
- Positive affirmations make also meditation successful. Use standard versions, or write out specific statements.
- Religious phrasing helps some people move from meditation into prayer.
Where to Find Guided Meditation Scripts
There are a number of books dedicated to guided meditation. Here are just a few:
- 30 Scripts for Relaxation, Imagery, and Healing
- Relaxation Scripts for Harmony, Tranquility, and Serenity
- Guided Meditations, Explorations, and Healings
You’ll also find many free guided meditation scripts online. Read over each one carefully, and gauge your response. You might find some a little sparse; others too wordy. Or, maybe you want a more intense visual experience. This is why it helps to have a variety of scripts on hand.
- The Wellness Community posted this detailed body relaxation script that states in the beginning, “This is going to be a time of complete relaxation.”
- At Meditations.biz, the company offers a variety of guided CDs, and posts segments of those in script form on the Web site. There are four versions with detailed imagery.
- The Guided Meditation Site has some different relaxation and healing visualization scripts free for download.
- A Place for the Heart offers a combination of guided meditation scripts and audio. One example is a script called, “I Forgive”.
- The Web site Inner Health Studio has an extensive selection of meditation scripts. Most are free to access, but others require membership. Choose from topics such as guided imagery and relaxation to dealing with anxiety and encouraging creative expression.
Writing a Meditation Script
Try writing a meditation script. Focus on a particular place, or a deliberate intention. You want the script to be detailed, but not complicated, so your mind and body offer no resistance.
A relaxation script often features imagery that comforts a person without actually saying, “You’re safe here!” For you, this may be in your bed, in your lover’s arms, or against a tree in the forest. Here’s an example of a relaxation script featuring this writer’s favorite place:
- I’m standing on the shore, the weight of my body releasing into the sand. With each wave of warm, frothy water that washes over my feet, and with each breath I take, my body slips a little deeper into the sand. I wiggle my toes, and the water and sand caress me. The slow rhythm of the water calms me as the morning sun breaks the horizon, its pink-orange glow warming my face. I know nothing but this moment... this moment... this moment.
This might be the type of script you record so it repeats during your meditation. Or, you could start your session with this full visual, either spoken aloud or reviewed silently, then replay “this moment” or another mantra as you slip into meditation.
Here’s an example of a positive affirmation script. Release all judgment, and focus on an intention you know you can keep:
- Today, I will smile with my mouth, eyes, and heart. I will complete each moment with joy.
Again, this meditation isn’t complicated, and it’s not a big long list of things to accomplish. It’s simply a couple of sentences you can repeat during meditation and throughout the day.
