Benefits of Online Yoga

Many instructors and studios recognize the added value in providing free online yoga classes.

  • Students curious about trying something different, such as Vinyasa Yoga or Kundalini Yoga, can do so without a lot of investment at first. If they enjoy the free class, they can seek out a local studio to develop a relationship.
  • Individuals on a new fitness path who want to use a yoga routine for weight loss don’t have to feel intimidated in a class of more flexible yogis.
  • Some may want to do a quick morning routine with their kids before school.
  • Other yogis may live remotely, and becoming a member of a specialized yoga site helps with both the routine and in building an online community.

Yoga Online Class Considerations

The atmosphere you create to follow an online yoga class is as important as a live session in a studio setting. Take a few moments to establish your practice area so you can receive the optimum benefit.

  1. Position the monitor well for the best alignment. If you have a laptop, set it on a desk or chair within easy eye range for sitting poses, and make sure you don’t have to look down too far to see the screen from standing poses. If you’re using a desktop computer, you may have to move your monitor.
  2. Keep the mouse handy. You might want to stop the stream for a moment, and you shouldn’t have to break the flow too much to reach it. A remote mouse is a good solution, too.
  3. Give yourself plenty of room. Clear as much space as you can, even if you have to rearrange furniture! However, this is difficult in some hotel rooms where the beds can’t be moved easily. If the hotel is WiFi wired, try doing your routine in the exercise room or out by the pool.
  4. Pick online options suitable for your Internet speed. While practicing yoga, you shouldn’t have the frustration of constant buffering. On some sites, it may be faster to let the yoga video load onto your system first, even if it takes a few minutes, before continuing. Or, you might have to vary your choice of online routines based on the delivery method for the best results.
  5. Have your props, yoga mat, and water nearby. This will help you stay focused on your routine.
