Cheap Yoga Pants
From LoveToKnow Yoga
Cheap yoga pants, tops, and other apparel help make the practice truly accessible to everyone. While stylish fashion designers like Green Dragon make very chic apparel, cheap yoga pants may fit both a body and budget more easily.
What Kind of Clothes are Needed for Yoga?
Unless you're planning on doing some kind of nude yoga, picking out the right clothes for your workout will improve the quality of your practice every session. Here are the prime factors to think about when picking out pants for yoga:
- Range of Motion – Yoga is all about stretching. Whether you choose expensive or cheap yoga pants, they need to be able to let you move without restriction, while at the same time not get in the way.
- Breathable Material – While it may be tempting to get some kind of cheap nylon running warm-up pants, those usually do not "breathe" as well as natural fibers like cotton. This means that during a more strenuous workout, you may end up getting very sweaty.
- Durability – One of the best reasons to get cheap yoga pants is that they're easy to replace. But remember, you will be on your knees and on the floor a lot, and the material needs to be able to withstand that kind of treatment. You will also most likely be washing it quite a bit, and that can weaken the very same natural fibers that make a pair of yoga pants so comfortable.
- Fit – Most yoga pants have an elastic or drawstring top. However, finding a pair that is the right length can be a challenge on a budget. A trick that dancers and other movement practitioners use on tall pants is to roll the waistband of the pants over and over until the hem on each leg is at an appropriate height.
Finding Cheap Yoga Pants
One of the best places to find cheap yoga apparel of all sorts is a a second-hand store such as Goodwill or Savers. While the selection may not be as wide as a retail store, the prices will be far less and sometimes you can find brand-name pants and tops on the racks in excellent condition.
Retail stores such as Target also sell workout pants that are similar to yoga pants. This can be a nice combination of choosing from a wide selection and a reasonable price.
The advantage of purchasing yoga pants online is that you'll have a much more diverse selection of materials and often some excellent prices, though you will usually have to pay for shipping. Here are some resources online:
- DealCloset has many yoga styles, though most are not very cheap – usually over $30. However, there are a lot of styles including tighter capris and cotton/spandex blends, and there is the added benefit that a portion of every sale goes to charity.
- The ABC of Yoga features yoga pants with the fairly expensive bamboo fabric, but in contrast, has the more reasonable Thai Fisherman's Pants which are less than $30. This is a company specifically tailored to meet the needs of yoga, and they feature several "partner shops" that allow you to compare prices.
- Yoga Pants Etc gets the prize for the cheapest yoga pants found easily on the Web, with nothing over $30 and some under $20. The pants are loose, comfortable and easy to see on the website.
Surprisingly enough, the best deals for cheap yoga pants may be found at a bookstore – or what used to be a bookstore. Amazon.com sells a wide variety of yoga pants sometimes as much as 50 percent off the regular list price. Most of the time it's easy to get free shipping as well for orders that are over $25 or so (depending on the current deals offered by the site). Keep in mind that any pants ordered online may not fit or be what you expected once you get them, so make sure the seller has a return policy that works for you.
If they are exactly what you're looking for, though, just put on your frugally-conscious yoga clothing and get to practice!
